The Master’s degree in Indigenous Language Revitalization (MILR) is the only one of its kind in Canada. It's offered jointly through UVic's Faculties of Humanities and Education.

Graduates from our program are making an impact by:

  • leading language revitalization efforts in Indigenous communities, and
  • supporting post-secondary programs in the revitalization, recovery and maintenance of Indigenous languages.

The MILR is offered as an MA (with thesis) or MEd (with major project and comprehensive exam). The Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalization is an early exit option available in consultation with the Department Chair and Graduate Advisor.
